Getting started
Is BAUMhaus the right fit for my project?
Building a home is a close working relationship, and the right fit matters on both sides. We value open communication, mutual trust and a shared understanding of your goals. We recognize that we may not be the right builder for every project, and an initial conversation helps us explore that fit together. We take pride in the relationships we build—some of our clients have become lasting friends.
Where do you offer build-on-your-lot services?
Our St. George build-on-your-lot service covers St. George and communities within a 30-mile radius of the city. Send us your property address so we can discuss your site and project.
Do I need to own a lot before contacting you?
No. You are welcome to contact us while exploring your options. Share a property you are considering, or visit Build Opportunities to explore proposed homes paired with homesites. Our real estate partner, the Griffin Team, can help you explore available properties. Call 435-619-3465 or view the Griffin Team’s listings.
Can you help me evaluate a lot before I buy it?
Yes, and we strongly recommend involving us before you purchase or during your due diligence period. We can evaluate the lot with your proposed home in mind and help identify potential challenges that could affect the project.
What happens after I submit an inquiry?
We will acknowledge your inquiry by email within 24 hours and follow up with more information or a phone call within 36 hours. We often respond sooner. From there, we can discuss your ideas and the next steps for your project.
What should I include with my project inquiry?
Start with what you have. Your lot address or listing, plans, site photos and inspiration are all helpful. Use our Contact Us page to share your project information, PDFs and photos, or a shared-folder link for larger files. If anything else is needed, we will reach out and help you identify the next steps.
Designing your home
Can you help me design a custom home, or may I bring my own plans?
We can recommend local architects, engineers and designers to help bring your vision to life. You are also welcome to bring your own plans, provided they have been prepared by a licensed architect.
Can I customize one of your existing home designs?
Yes. Our existing designs can be a starting point for a home tailored to your needs. If a home is already under construction, changes may be limited or no longer possible, depending on the stage of the build.
Can you build a home with a pool or separate ADU?
Yes. Homes with pools and accessory dwelling units are among our specialties. We can help you plan your pool and contact the local jurisdiction to clarify permitted uses for an ADU. Requirements and rental permissions depend on the property; approval for one home does not automatically apply to another.
Who helps me choose finishes, fixtures and materials?
We work through selections during our design meetings and strongly recommend working with our preferred home design team. Together, we can coordinate the details of your home and confirm your approval before moving forward with the selections and work discussed.
Do you take on major renovations?
New construction is our primary focus, although we take on major remodels from time to time. Tell us what you are planning. If the project falls outside our scope, we can often recommend a company whose specialty is a better match.
Budget and timeline
How much should I budget for a custom home?
A single price per square foot rarely captures the differences between custom homes. Your design, homesite, finishes and priorities all shape the cost. We can help narrow the budget and develop an estimate around your ideas and needs, typically beginning with an in-person planning meeting.
What is typically included in the project budget?
We typically coordinate the homebuilding process from start to finish, with landscaping handled separately. If you would like landscaping included, we can arrange it and incorporate it into your budget. We will review the scope and inclusions with you so you understand what is covered. Our goal is to make the process organized, enjoyable and exciting.
What is included in a BAUMhaus home, and what is extra?
Our Home Features Guide outlines standard features, optional upgrades and items not included as standard. Final grading is standard, while landscaping beyond grading and garage insulation are optional upgrades. Custom selections are available. Features and options vary by selected plan; confirm the inclusions, exclusions and pricing for your specific home with BAUMhaus. Explore the Home Features Guide or use Contact Us to discuss your selections.
How long does construction usually take?
Every home is different. As a general construction guide, a 1,000–1,500 sq ft home may take approximately 5–6 months, and a 1,500–2,500 sq ft home may take approximately 6–9 months. Larger custom homes can take 18 months or more. These are planning estimates, not guaranteed completion dates. We will discuss a schedule for your specific project, including the design and planning stages, and prioritize keeping the work moving.
How do your contracts and pricing work?
We typically build custom homes on a cost-plus basis, with project costs and the builder’s fee addressed in the agreement. This approach provides transparency into the cost of your home. Our listed homes are typically offered as fixed-price purchases. We will explain the pricing structure that applies to your project before you commit.
Can you help with construction financing?
We can help you navigate the process and arrange introductions to financing providers if needed. We can also work with the bank you choose. Financing terms and approval are determined by your lender.
During construction and after move-in
How are changes handled once construction begins?
We aim to establish the details and finishes during our initial construction and design meetings, and we strongly recommend working with our preferred design team. We also understand that your preferences may evolve as the home takes shape. Each change to the scope of work requires a change order and may involve an associated fee. We will discuss the change with you before proceeding.
How will I receive updates if I live out of town?
We tailor communication to what works best for you, whether that is email, text, phone calls or a combination. Clear, consistent communication is central to a strong working relationship and a successful build, wherever you are during construction.
What warranty and support do you provide after move-in?
Before you move in, we complete a walkthrough with you. We provide a one-year builder warranty after move-in. Appliances and equipment, such as water heaters and furnaces, have separate manufacturer warranties; coverage and duration vary by product and may extend beyond the builder warranty. If you are interested in an extended home warranty, your title closing officer may be able to explain available options.
